CONFERENCE VENUE. 51st Annual Meeting of the Societas Linguistica Europaea (SLE 2018) conference will be held in Tallinn University campus, Narva maantee (Narva road) 29, Tallinn. To get to the conference venue from the city centre, take trams no 1 or no 3 towards “Kadriorg” (written on the tram) to reach Tallinn University (stop: “Tallinna Ülikool”).


PROGRAMME. All the information concerning the scientific programme can be found at You will receive a printed copy of the schedule and the extended programme with your conference dossier at the registration desk. The Book of abstracts is only available on the conference website, tab Book of abstracts.


LOCAL TRANSPORTATION. Free public transportation for the participants of the conference is arranged from 29 August until 1 September 2018. For using this free service you will need your conference badge, which you will receive at registration. So, first, you will need to pick up your conference dossier at the registration desk, and then you will be allowed to use the public transportation for free. Please show your badge to the ticket controller when asked.


REGISTRATION. Registration and information desk is situated on the first floor of Astra building, Narva maantee (Narva road) 29, Tallinn. The opening times of the registration and information desk are as follows: Tuesday, August 28, 16:00-20:00; Wednesday, August 29, 8:00-18:00; Thursday, August 30, 8:30-19:00; Friday, August 31, 8:30-17:00, and Saturday, September 1, 9:00-13:30.


ORAL PRESENTATIONS. Oral presentations last 25 minutes. The actual presentation should be 20 minutes, leaving 5 minutes for questions. 5 minutes are reserved for room changes. It is recommended to copy your presentation on the desktop of the computer in your session room in advance, during the coffee or lunch breaks, at least 10 minutes before the whole session starts. All the rooms have a computer. We recommend that you bring your presentation both as a ppt and as a pdf. You can also plug in your own laptop. There will be student assistants who will help you if necessary.


WI-FI. You will be able to access the free network connection called TLU in Tallinn University campus. No password is required.


POSTER SESSIONS. This year the poster session will take place on Thursday 30 August, overlapping with the morning coffee break, taking place in the Researcher’s Forum, Astra building from 10.30 to 11.30. Posters should be vertical of A0 size (841x1189cm). Presenters  can  bring  and  pin  their  posters between  9.50 and 10.20. Poster presenters can send their poster to the conference manager if they wish to have their poster on the conference website


HANDOUTS. We expect around 510 participants distributed over 12 parallel sessions. So, if you are bringing handouts, it would be advisable to bring around 20 copies for a presentation in general session or in a short (one day) workshop; for long (1,5 day), workshops––and especially joint workshops––count more, around 40. We recommend that you print them before you come to Tallinn. It will not be possible to print out handouts at the conference office, but there are print shops next to the university building at Narva maantee 21/23 and behind the university building at Tuukri põik 3. Opening hours: 10-16 from Monday to Friday. Take your documents with you on a memory stick. Printing is also available in most hotels in the city centre.


PUBLISHERS. Representatives of John Benjamins, Brill, De Gruyter-Mouton, Edinburgh University Press, Oxford University Press, Peter Lang, Springer, and Allecto.


SLE PRIZES for the best presentation/poster. We award prizes in the categories of best presentation by a PhD-student, best presentation by a Postdoc and best poster presentation. The presentations will be reviewed by the members of the SLE 2018 Programme Committee who are present at the conference. Nominees have be contacted and notified of their nomination before the conference.


LUNCHES (included in the fee). Lunches (and coffee during coffee breaks) will be served on the 1st floor of Astra building and on the 3rd floor of Mare building. Please wear your badge during the breaks.


WELCOME RECEPTION (included in the registration fee). The welcome reception will take place on Wednesday, August 29, in the House of Blackheads / Mustpeade maja, Pikk Street 26 at 19.00.


CITY WALK (included in the fee). The guided city walk will take place on Thursday, August 30, from 19.00 to 20.30. Meeting time is 18.50 in the Astra building, 1st floor.

Please note: comfortable shoes are recommended as the tour includes walking.


CONFERENCE DINNER. The conference dinner will take place on Friday, August 31, from 20.00 to 24.00, in the restaurant Seaplane Harbour/Lennusadam, Vesilennuki Street 6. For information how to get there, see “Practical information” on the conference website. The dinner is only for pre-registered participants, please bring your dinner ticket with you.


EXCURSION ON SATURDAY. The excursion to Rocca al Mare Open Air Museum will take place on Saturday, September 1, from 16.00 to 18.30. Meeting time is at 15.50 in the Astra building, 1st floor. Please note: comfortable shoes are recommended as the tour includes walking. The tour is only for pre-registered participants.


EXCURSIONS ON SUNDAY. Three excursions for pre-registered participants will be  organised for Sunday, September 2. Information about meeting times and meeting points can be found on the conference website:
